Tough fights took place on the field on the last day of the qualifying calendar for this seventh U23 Championship, to distribute the last three tickets to the semi-finals.

Pinar del Rio, Villa Clara and Las Tunas beat their rivals in high-tension duels to control their groups and slip into the playoffs, teams that had never managed to climb to the top of the podium in previous editions of this category.

Driven by an overflowing Capitan San Luis stadium, the Vegueros defeated Leones de La Habana 2-1 in a fantastic baseball game played under sweltering temperatures.

After wasting several chances throughout the challenge against a team that made an outrageous number of six fouls, Donald Duarte’s squad scored the decisive break down the sixth inning to a huge fanfare in the stands.

The D.C. residents had scored in the same opening game, when catcher Brian Gonzalez, who took his 15th championship run to the lead, hit the ground running to establish himself as the leader in this division, but few imagined that he would end up there producing blue for the rest of the afternoon.

Gunner Daniel Martinez before a charge from Omar Risgo equalized the measures to close out the third episode, but a legendary relief from savior Eric Christian Gonzalez kept the hosts silent until the end of the match.

The final advantage came in Division VI when right-handed Andy Vargas climbed the blue hill. Fidel Linares hit and a long double from Jürmann Lecourt put the ball on the mattresses, penalizing the clash as they battled for more than two and a half hours into the match.

With this victory, the Orientals reached nine in the tournament, just like Gallos de Sancti Spíritus, but they grabbed the ticket by winning the designated series.

Eugenio Ramirez sorted and led in a pair of runs, leading the duo of Leonardo Joseph (4-1) and Yasel Izaguirre (5-2) in one.

Rodolfo Diaz took his palms as he completed the entire trip, hitting eight opponents and only accepting four indisputably.

Leopardos de Villa Clara share honors with Crocodiles of Matanzas, but they only needed to win the first challenge to make them impossible to reach at the top of Class B.

A huge relief by Dairon Casanova during three seasons as he left his rivals goalless, and a solo shot by Leonardo Montero (3-2), was key to a narrow 3-2 win that gave them a ticket to the semi-finals.

In the second hour, Yumarinos pinned the arms of two bowlers to win 1-0, but it was already a purely formal game.

Dennis Quesada worked five rounds with eight hits and allowed only two hits, and David Martinez pitched the last two to take credit for the game.

The only inning of the game was driven by third baseman Hanyelo Videt with one in the sixth inning.

In the first round, the Pachyderms, as visitors at 5 de Septiembre, were won 4-1 with a fine throwing effort by Islay Sotolongo, who walked the entire route greening seven hits and spreading six hits, to claim his first win of the class.

In the second half they won 1-0, thanks to the action of three bowlers who did not allow liberties, and tubey by Kevin Guerra who returned the only score of the game.

Alberto Hechevarría scored the victory after working five rounds with only one hit allowed, and Yordanis Garcia and Kendry Hernández pitched a run each, the latter winning his third save from the competition.
