CHICAGO – Daniel Vogelbach kicked a penalty kick, Yoshi Tsutsugo added two more runs on the board with a brace, and the Pittsburgh Pirates recovered from behind to defeat the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Thursday.
The Pirates bounced back from a three-game streak sweep in Milwaukee thanks to nine hits to start a four-game streak at the Cubs’ home.
Pittsburgh player, Bryce Wilson, allowed Rafael Ortega’s song, then gave up three in a row. Jonathan Villar added the sacrifice fly to extend the 2-0 lead and led Seiya Suzuki in a second-half home run to make it 3-0.
Vogelbach scored in the third set and Tsutsugo’s two goals made it 4-3. That forced Cubs manager David Ross to retire Ethan Roberts (0-1) after a two-thirds run in which he gave up two winning runs, two runs and two runs, and two runs.
Will Crowe (1-0) hit five cubs in 2 1/3 runs from rest, giving up just one hit to take the win.
For the Buccaneers, Puerto Rican Roberto Perez scored 3-1 in one inning.
For the Cubs, Venezuelan Wilson Contreras scored a 3-1 run; Rafael Ortega 4-1 game record. Dominican Jonathan Villar 3-0 with RBI.
