Today the Cuban National Ballet mourned the death of Julio Castaño, who was initially a dancer, and later, set and costume designer for the company.
The dance group featured in a track manifesto who also worked as a designer for the National Opera and He died at the age of 86 due to a heart attack.
The emblematic collection summoned many of his creations such as Swan Lake (designed by Alicia Alonso), Flora’s Wardrobe (by Gustavo Herrera).
Other works bearing his stamp Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Petrouchka, Apollo, Pied Piper of Hamelin and the Circus.
Born in Havana, Castaño began his art studies at the Concha Ferrant School of Fine Arts and completed his training at the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts, where he earned a degree in drawing and painting in 1962.
In search of permanent improvement, he traveled to Madrid, where he studied at San Alejandro Central School and took lessons in dramatic art, singing, ballet, and scenic design.
