A collective call for the various health authorities to address vaccination coverage

Tunja, Duitama, Sogamoso, Chiquinquirá, Paipa, Moniquirá and Puerto Boyacá have committed to comply with an additional improvement plan to achieve vaccination coverage, before November 30.

Tonga, November 8, 2022. (UACP). Reviewing progress and evaluating vaccination statistics in 123 municipalities of Boyacá and following up on the commitments made, the purpose was to monitor the vaccination coverage of the permanent system and the high-quality measles vaccination campaign, called for by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, together with the Pan American Health Organization , the Pan American Health Organization, the National Health Watch and the Attorney General’s Office.

The event, which was aimed at promoting vaccination strategies and agreeing commitments with those municipalities that were behind in compliance with the regular plan coverage and the measles and rubella campaign, was attended by mayors, officials, trustees, local directors of health, coordinators from the Expanded Program on Immunization, PAI, for municipalities, managers and representatives of companies managing plans Benefits, EAPB.

According to Viviana Andrea Calderon, the designated adviser at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection for the Andean measles and rubella campaign, the balance was positive, bearing in mind that at the level of governance there is coordination of development and achievement. “We found that there is significant support and interaction from each of the areas, which allows Boyaca to be strong in this aspect, unlike other departments, however, out of the 123 municipalities, seven are lagging behind in compliance with the goals and it is necessary to take action”, Calderon confirmed.

He noted that Tonga, Doitama, Sugamoso, Chiquequenquera, Paipa, Munequera and Puerto Boyaca have additional improvement plan because they are the municipalities with the largest coverage of the regular scheme and for the measles and rubella campaign.

“We are trying, together with the mayors and professionals in each of these municipalities, in alignment with the EAPBs, to define extraordinary joint actions that will allow us to achieve vaccination goals while remaining available, until November 30,” Viviana noted.

On her part, Nancy Judith Monívar Sepúlveda, Director of Health Promotion and Prevention, explained that meeting with these oversight entities resulted in ensuring access to vaccination coverage in every municipality, especially those with significant lag.

“This is a joint effort that we are doing from Boyaca’s Minister of Health with each municipality, and we hope it will bear fruit so that the administration can achieve the targets at the national level and we are a region free of the spread of measles and rubella.
