The Cuban intellectual and President of the Casa de las Américas, Abel Prieto, highlighted in Managua the development of the culture sector promoted by the Sandinista government in Nicaragua today.

In an interview with Prensa Latina, the writer also highlights the achievements and cultural richness of this Central American nation and how its grassroots leaders have in their conscience the vital importance of promoting it among the people.

He raised the thought of the Cuban scientist Fernando Ortiz, who expressed that culture is the soul of the nation, which is why it is necessary to defend it from fascist groups, representatives of the aggressive policy of the United States.

In this sense, he recalls how, during the failed coup attempt of 2018, vandals destroyed the symbols of popular and traditional culture in Nicaragua, as happened in the Folklore Museum of the city of Masaya.

He stressed that “what they want is to attack, smash and damage the particular spiritual fabric that culture means to the people, and this is linked to those who do not agree that the alternative to savage capitalism must flourish.”

Note that it is of great importance that the alternative media of the major media powers reveal the essence of fascism, which is on the rise and is being expressed.

He denounced the mechanisms of manipulation of information and emotions, and described the harmful use of social networks to promote hatred and division.

“Behind this is not democracy or freedom of speech, but a hysterical fascist and anti-communist vision against all that means progress,” he said.

Among the current challenges facing intellectuals, he mentioned the fight against cultural colonialism, because, as the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, said, it constitutes the main instrument of imperialist domination of the world.

In this regard, he commented that what this concept seeks is the imposition of fetishes, paradigms and paradigms of life that are alien to the history and roots of peoples.

He argued that the intellectuals of the world should generate and foster an anti-colonial vision and critical thinking, so that those in the networks are not manipulated.

Prieto made a four-day visit to Nicaragua at the invitation of the Sandinista executive to participate, among other activities, in the celebration of the 93rd and 97th birthdays of the founding member of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, Thomas Borge, and the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, respectively.

As part of the visit to this Central American country, the deputy of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba toured places of economic, political and cultural importance in the provinces of Chinandega, León, Masaya and Granada.
