Activation of the national prevention system during Holy Week in Guatemala

This inter-institutional effort responds to the huge influx of people who, starting tomorrow, will go to the entertainment venues along the country’s highways or will attend the paths of the Great Week parade, which was recently included in the list of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

From Friday until April 10 at 10:00 a.m. local time, 13 campsites will be operating at public beaches and recreation centers, including Semuc Champey, Alta Verapaz; Monterrico Beach, Santa Rosa; San Jose Port, Escuintla; Champerico, Ritalholio; Panajachel, Solola; and Tikal National Park in Petén.

Another force with a leading role is the National Civilian Police (PNC), whose forces will ensure the protection of tourists during long breaks in the country’s high traffic points through the Tourist Security Division.

The measures will focus on caring for the physical safety of people and the property of domestic and foreign tourists, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.
