Angelique Kerber, with a comeback date after becoming a mother

Angelique Kerber He played his last game on July 1, 2022. Why? She was pregnant with her daughter, Liana. After giving birth, she gave an interview to Bild newspaper and talked about her recent motherhood and her desire to return to the ring.

Kerber, 36, tells how she’s going through this new phase of her life with her baby: “He’s always with me, sometimes in the stroller and sometimes on the playground. Everything works fine. Luckily he sleeps a lot and well. But if he starts crying, I’ll be right there.”

The former world number one and three-time Grand Slam champion shared how her preparation comes after giving birth: “I’m training again. In my academy, I’ve already hit some balls. Now in Bad Homburg I completed a more intense session for the first time and played for over an hour. I want to be 100% sure I can handle a three-hour game and be back on the field the next day. I want to take my time to really prepare.”

“I will be back when the new season starts. I have a goal to play the Australian Open in 2024. This also includes previous tournaments in Australia, and possibly playing the United Cup for Germany.”

What are your goals for your return? “I have high expectations of myself, that hasn’t changed. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone anymore. That’s why now I take my time to get back in shape. Maybe I can play Wimbledon and the US Open this year, but not at the level I imagine. My goal is Grand Slam tournaments. And, of course, the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.”
