Passengers travelling through Auckland Airport could face disruptions after the domestic terminal was evacuated following a fire alarm, temporarily affecting operations at New Zealand’s busiest airport.

Domestic Terminal Evacuated After Fire Alarm
Auckland Airport’s domestic terminal was evacuated in the morning after a fire alarm was activated and the building’s sprinkler system went off.
Passengers and airport staff were required to leave the terminal while emergency services responded to the incident.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand attended the airport following the alarm. A shift manager earlier told RNZ there had been reports of the smell of electrical burning inside the terminal.
Emergency crews were waiting for an airport electrician as they investigated the source of the reported smell and determined whether there was an ongoing electrical or fire risk.
Terminal Reopens Following Emergency Response
An Auckland Airport spokesperson later confirmed that the domestic terminal had reopened, allowing passengers and staff to return and airport operations to resume.
While the evacuation was temporary, the disruption is expected to have a flow-on effect across the domestic flight schedule.
The airport spokesperson said the alarm was likely to cause delays to some arriving and departing flights as airlines and airport teams worked to restore normal operations.
