Awards for two films from Costa Rica at a festival in Slovakia

It is about Electric Dreams, the first film by Valentina Morel, which won the Blue Angel for Best Direction, which awarded him the Art Film Fest Košice Prize for that European country.

The film also won the Horizontes del 70 Donostia Zinemaldia Award, at the San Sebastian Festival, Spain. The film was released in August 2022 at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won several awards: Best Direction and Best Female and Male Performance.

Since then, on her last year’s journey to filming dates from all latitudes, both the director and her protagonists have won numerous privileges at festivals such as Biarritz’s Latin American Festival, Sinoruba and Leeds International Film Festival.

Added to this are the Antofacine International Festival, the one in Bogota, the Latin American Festival in Quito and the Luxembourg City Film Festival, among the most important.

The other award-winning film at the Slovak Festival is Domingo y la niebla (2022) by Ariel Escalante, the second film by his director.

Premiered last May at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, it was the only Ibero-American to be nominated for two of the main sections of the event, and the first in Costa Rica to be selected for Un Certain Regard, the Certain Regard section of this prestigious competition.

The Costa Rican Ministry of External Relations and Worship congratulates the award-winning film crews and their creators for winning the awards in this competition that took place from June 16-23 on its official social media pages.
