Borrell meets in Argentina with the foreign ministers of Cuba, Chile and Ecuador

BUENOS AIRES, October 26 (EFE): The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, held bilateral meetings on Wednesday with the foreign ministers of Cuba, Chile and Ecuador.

Borrell met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, with whom he analyzed the state of bilateral cooperation and the human rights agenda, according to the European representative via Twitter.

“We have a common desire to hold the EU-Cuba Joint Council soon,” Borrell stressed.

Rodriguez described his meeting with the High Representative of the European Union as “fruitful” and highlighted the importance of further strengthening political dialogue, economic and trade relations and cooperation between Cuba and the European Union.

As part of his visit to Buenos Aires to participate Thursday in the foreign ministers meeting of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Borrell also met with Chilean Foreign Minister, Antonia Origola, who reaffirmed the will to close the update of the EU-Chile Association Agreement in the coming weeks.

“It is our common priority,” said Borrell, who also spoke with the Chilean minister about the war in Ukraine and the relationship between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

Borrell also met with Ecuador’s Foreign Minister, Juan Carlos Holguin, with whom he spoke about regional and global challenges.

“Ecuador has a consistent pro-Ukrainian position and condemns Russian aggression. We will continue to work together, strengthening bilateral relations, and in the United Nations Security Council in 2023-24,” Borrell said.

Holguin described his meeting with the EU High Representative as “excellent”, with whom he discussed, among other topics, the Russian attack on Ukraine, food security and migration. EFE
