Mexico City on December 20, 2023.- CAF Mexico has announced that it will export 23 electric trains from Auckland, New Zealand, for Auckland Transport, in a project valued at more than 130 million euros, which will be manufactured in efficient Mexico at its plant in Huehuetoca, Mexico State.

Production of these trains, each capable of carrying 380 passengers, is estimated to begin in March 2023 and be completed by 2025. This is an extension of the contract to supply 57 power units to CAF Group in 2011. 15 units were added in 2017. Also, expansion of this scheme by 5 additional units is contemplated.

The trains consist of two end motor cars with three cars each, carriages and an intermediate trailer car. Its structure will be made of stainless steel, each incorporating two doors on its side for users to enter and exit. The intermediate car will have a low floor, making access to the unit easier for people with reduced mobility and wheelchair users.

The regional electric trains will have a length of 72 meters per train and a speed of 110 km per hour. The latest generation systems such as displays, cameras or Wi-Fi and the necessary systems to achieve the highest safety levels on the market: ERTMS, DVS, event recorder and ground train radio. Also, its technology will help to accurately know how many passengers a train has carried and the number of passengers it has boarded and alighted at each station.

CAF Mexico recently completed the official delivery of 28 trains fully manufactured with 100% Mexican labor for LRT Line 1 in Manila, Philippines, under a contract worth €225 million.

Maximiliano Zurita, General Director of CAF Mexico, shared that this new project for the Huehuetoca plant is a result of the high quality of other trains manufactured at the CAF Mexico plant through Mexican technology and talent.
