Call to expel US Senator emerges in El Salvador

El Diario El Salvador, the country’s most widely circulated newspaper, took up the demand of Republican US Senator John Fetterman, who said that Democrat Menendez “could not be part of the legislature, and that he should have left ‘a long time ago’.”

Fetterman called on the Senate to vote on the resolution. “Senator Menendez should not be a US Senator. He should have been gone a long time ago. It is time for all of my Senate colleagues to join me in ousting Senator Menendez. We cannot have an alleged foreign agent,” he said. In the United States Senate.

The media reported that the lawsuit came after New Jersey Attorney General Damian William filed a new charge against Menendez, for allegedly working as an agent for Egypt, alongside his wife Nadine Arslanian, while he chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The accusation shows that Menendez and his wife accepted thousands of dollars in bribes from 2018 to 2022. The Democrat thus exploited his power as a senator to benefit three businessmen from this same country and the government of Egypt.

From his position on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the politician criticized President Nayib Bukele and at one point requested that the FBI investigate El Salvador over the law that established Bitcoin as legal tender.

After the accusation, the Salvadoran president responded to the news on social media: “This man requested an investigation against us. “He ended up being charged.”
