Carolina Corkshaw has been sworn in as Colombia’s new health minister

On Sunday, August 7, after the presidential inauguration of former Senator Gustavo Petro, the traditional inauguration of the new government took place.

Although the appointment of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection was one of President Petro’s first appointments, it became official Sunday night.

Through his Twitter account, Health Wallet reports that the president has appointed Curcho as the new head of the health office.

Similarly, the Foundation states that the Minister is a physician from the University of Antioquia, a psychiatrist from the National University and a holder of a master’s degree in political studies from the Pontifical Bolivarian University.

The Ministry of Health also indicated in its excerpt that women from Antioquia will be responsible for ensuring the right to health for all in the national territory.

Corcho arrives in the health bag to replace Doctor Fernando Ruiz Gómez, who was honored on multiple occasions before leaving his post for managing the covid-19 pandemic in Colombia.

The health union is waiting for the new minister to start her work in the sector, especially after her controversial statements in which she said that she agreed to abolish EPS as intermediaries in the health service.
