Chilean President welcomes back Brazil to Cilek

Borik said that I am sure that with the return of that country after several years of absence, this organization will enter a stage of greater consolidation and will strengthen its presence in the international arena.

During his speech at the Seventh CELAC Summit held in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, Borik joined in condemning what happened on January 8 in Brasilia, when a crowd of followers of former President Jair Bolsonaro attacked the authorities of the three countries and caused severe damage to the facilities.

“We do not categorically reject any attempt to ignore the legitimacy of electoral processes,” he said, adding that these events indicate the need to protect and consolidate democracy.

In his speech, to heads of state and high-level delegations present at the summit, the Chilean president referred to the crisis in Peru where, he said, those who go out to protest end up being shot by those they must defend.

He said that “more than 50 people died and this should shock us”, and also condemned the violent entry of the police into the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos.

Gabriel Boric demanded a change of course in Peru and recalled how 50 years ago there was a coup d’état in his country and the dictatorship brutally showed, in blood and fire, the consequences of the collapse of democracy.
