Congressman highlights the consolidation of relations between Colombia and Venezuela

We are facing a historic opportunity with the restoration of relations after five years of rupture. He stressed the need for us to show all sectors to develop the enormous capabilities of our countries for the benefit of our peoples.

Referring to the Colombian-Venezuelan binational meeting (governmental, trade union and commercial), he emphasized that the large number of initiatives that deepen the integration of the two peoples is evident.

Regarding transportation, he said it is necessary to enhance land, sea, river and air connectivity between the two countries to improve tourism, trade and people’s transit.

With regard to trade, Flores noted that it was important to change the focus, so that the border was not just a place through which trade and profits crossed, but focused on industrial and commercial development.

In his opinion, the border areas have great potential and work will be done to develop them.

With regard to agriculture, the senator explained that there are a large number of projects to advance, develop and encourage agricultural development in the two countries.

With regard to tourism, the congresswoman stressed that Colombia and Venezuela have beautiful natural and tourist attractions, and that is why it is important to promote tourism as a new source of economic development and the union of the two peoples.

For his part, Venezuelan Minister of Agriculture Wilmar Castro said on Friday that Colombia and Venezuela will present 16 bilateral initiatives related to intermodal interconnection, agro-industry and hydrocarbons to the Latin American Development Bank – CAF.

He said that with these agreements, the two parties seek to move forward in consolidating the bilateral project and the aforementioned projects related to the agricultural sector, such as expanding the production area for oil palms in the border areas between the two countries.
