Cuba condemns the assassination of the Ecuadorian presidential candidate – Escambray

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) on Friday expressed its strong condemnation and rejection of the assassination of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, which took place on Wednesday after the end of a political rally in the capital, Quito.

Via Twitter, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent its condolences to the relatives of Villavicencio, journalist by profession and presidential candidate of the Movimento Construi coalition, as well as to the Ecuadorean people and government.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of #Cuba expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the assassination of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, and expresses its deepest condolences to his family, the Ecuadorian people and the government.”

Cuba has expressed its strong condemnation of this act since Thursday, through a note verbale delivered to the Ecuadorean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eugenio Martínez Enriquez, Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Minrex Ministry, reported on the same social network. .

“We have delivered a note verbale to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador expressing its strong condemnation of the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio and our deepest condolences to his family, the people and the Ecuadorean government.”

Villavicencio died, Wednesday, August 9, at the age of 59, after being shot several times, one of them in the head, as he exited one of the acts corresponding to his campaign in the upcoming elections on August 20.

A number of people were wounded during the shooting and one of the attackers died while being transported to the hospital.

President Guillermo Lasso decreed three days of mourning and declared a 60-day state of emergency, and certified that elections would be held on schedule.

The Ecuadorian President confirmed that investigations are continuing and we will apply all the rigor of the law so that those responsible for the materials and intellectuals pay the maximum penalty.
