Dead Island 2 will change its mechanics with a card-based skill system

Dead Island 2 will change its mechanics with a card-based skill system

Nearly a decade after its official announcement and with some significant changes in between, including its own development studio, Dead Island 2 It is approaching its release date. Although the game will retain many of the features that were present in the first iteration of the series, the release promises a significant change in its ability system, which will be based entirely on the mechanics of the cards in the sequel. As confirmed by Dambuster Studios creative director James Worral, the new scheme is “better” than the first “Dead Island” scheme, in which each character had abilities divided into different predetermined roles.

According to Worral, the new system is “a deck that represents all kinds of abilities and allows you to change cards, however you want, whenever you want.” Although the mechanics for obtaining new cards and their functions have not yet been specified, ‘Dead Island 2’ will not force the player to use a random set of them and will always be informed of the properties of the cards at every moment.

Big change

However, these mechanics will allow players to take risks and create dangerous combos. However, they promise that even when “everything goes wrong,” the experience is still worth it. It will be necessary to wait to verify this, because, until now, Dambuster has not indicated whether the system will be the same for the six playable characters from ‘Dead Island 2’, or whether the cards will differ according to the player’s choice.

From the producer, they see the card system as one of the greatest additions a video game will ever see. “The art is great and very flashy and such, but the cards are so much fun to play. You can switch skills instantly. You can take off, change your ability, and land in different outfits, which is amazing.”

Horror, black humor and zombies

Dead Island 2 is a first-person action role-playing game set in a hellish, vibrant vision of Los Angeles, codenamed HELL-A. The formula of epic, dark humor, and a superior zombie makes a comeback, with all the swagger and charisma you’d expect from a Death IslandGame summary.

In terms of combat, they promise a more intense and deep experience, with many weapons and tactical options to advance through the hordes of zombies that await us. “Whether you’re burning, squashing, or ripping zombies apart, we want you to really feel it,” they point out from the studio. It will add a co-op mode for up to three players in which a very long (and bloody) stay in Los Angeles awaits us. With confirmed versions of PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S and PC, the game will hit stores on April 28 this year.
