The new president will have a short term of only a year and a half to complete the period 2021-2025, which Lasso boycotted last May by applying the “cross-death”, which dissolved the Assembly with an opposition majority, in the elections. The time had come when he sought his removal, thus forcing a new general election.

Noboa has so far appointed 16 ministers and left four ministerial portfolios awaiting appointment, including Interior, Economy, Finance, Women, Human Rights, Communications and Information Society, the vacant positions of which he said will be filled on Sunday.
