El Salvador records 12 new deaths from the Corona virus, and an accumulation of 90,129 cases

El Salvador recorded 12 new deaths due to Covid-19 on Friday, bringing the death toll to 2,781, and the accumulation of 90,126 infections, according to official figures updated on Saturday.

The Ministry of Health (Minsal) said the deaths involved five men aged 30-80 and seven women aged 50-80.

The country went from recording fewer than 10 deaths per day to counting 16 deaths due to the Corona virus on July 14, 29 and 30, numbers that the local press puts as the highest so far in 2021.

In addition, El Salvador, which records the circulation of three different types of “concern” from the virus, has seen a rise in daily infections since last June.

The figures on the government website covid19.gob.sv are attributed to the rise in the number of daily cases, which rose from 134 on June 1 to 303 on August 10.

The Central American country, whose daily number of infections has not exceeded 300 since mid-January, has already exceeded 5 million vaccines applied against Covid-19.

According to official data, 5143912 doses were applied, of which 3213935 doses identical to the first dose and 1929977 doses to the second.

The government estimates that vaccinating 5.5 million people could achieve “herd immunity,” according to local newspaper reports.

Health authorities are currently implementing, according to a government statement, more than 90,000 daily doses in 166 points for people over 12 years old.

El Salvador has received more than 10.2 different combinations of coronavirus vaccines through purchases, donations and the World Health Organization (WHO) Covax System.
