El Salvador: Strengthening health educators in the Eastern Region – PAHO/WHO

San Salvador, El Salvador, February 14, 2024. Since 1976, in El Salvador, the strategy of expanding coverage in hard-to-reach locations has received invaluable support from health promoters. Their work, characterized by commitment and dedication to service, has been instrumental in bringing health closer to communities.

The health authorities delivered a donation of equipment to support field activities, which will benefit more than 55,000 families from hard-to-reach communities in the eastern part of the country.

Their commitment and dedication are invaluable.” are essential to achieving the goal of providing renewable, high-quality primary health care to all people, especially those living in the most deprived communities.

Likewise, with support from the Universal Health Coverage Partnership (UHC-P), the Basic Health Promoter Course has been updated, which will be used to enhance staff competencies. Between July and August 2023, 11 training workshops were held in Morazán and La Union, prioritizing course contents and based on needs identified in the health and childhood technical programs of the Ministry of Health, including health promotion, mental health, palliative care, rehabilitation and chronic diseases. – Communicable diseases, surveillance and community participation.

These actions represent a symbol of recognition and support for the work of health promotion workers in El Salvador.
