Elderly Day is celebrated in Santiago de Cuba

Santiago de Cuba, October 1 (ACN) With the aim of ensuring a better quality of life for the elderly, the International Day of Older Persons is celebrated today.

As Dalia Ruiz, who is in charge of this program in Santiago de Cuba, told the Cuban News Agency, to achieve these purposes in the territory, they have a comprehensive monitoring team in family doctors’ offices, clinics and hospitals.

He noted that among the strategies adopted to improve well-being in old age are running circles and homes for grandparents, homes for the elderly, domino clubs, and the seniors’ chair.

Regarding the new family law, Ruiz stressed the importance of adding responsibilities for other family members, in order to enhance the protection of grandparents.

Miriam Rodriguez, 81, said she felt privileged, to spend time in her selfie, meeting friends and participating in cultural activities rather than isolating herself from society.

He said people see aging as the end of life, and ancestral spaces provide the opportunity to share experiences, improvise and take care of health through physical and mental exercise and other recreational activities.

Given the alarming rates of population aging in the region and the country, the Cuban public health system is implementing disparate measures to protect the elderly.
