Freddy Freeman to the All-Star Game List; low trout mic

NEW YORK – Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Trout will miss the All-Star Game with back spasms, joining Bryce Harper on the bench and denying himself a stellar show with two of the best players of the moment.

Dodgers first player Freddie Freeman was added Sunday as the 14th substitute player, bringing the home team to six representatives, and tying the New York Yankees with the most players on contributing teams.

Trout, a three-time AL MVP, has not played since Tuesday and was scratched out of the Angels lineup against the Dodgers on Saturday night.

Trout, 30, selected to start for the ninth time, was replaced on Sunday’s AL roster by Seattle Ty France for Tuesday’s game at Dodger Stadium.

Harper, a two-time NL MVP, is a seven-time All-Star and was named a rookie for the sixth time. He broke his right thumb when he hit a pitch from Blake Snell on June 25.

Byron Buxton of Minnesota will replace trout in the starting lineup.

Those losses come in addition to the issues of Justin Verlander of Houston, Gerrit Cole of the Yankees and Max Fried of Atlanta, who will not be active in the All-Star Game after its weekend start. Milwaukee’s Corbin Burns retired Sunday with New York Mets player Starling Marty.

Chicago White Sox relievers Liam Hendrix and Jordan Romano of Toronto and Devin Williams of Milwaukee have been replaced, along with pitchers Freeman and St. Louis Myles Micholas.

Mikolas receives a choice bonus of $50,000, Hendricks $15,000 and Romano $10,000.

L.A. Dodgers L.A. left fielder Tyler Anderson, Miami’s 1st baseman, Garrett Cooper, San Diego’s Jake Kronworth, San Francisco’s L.C. Carlos Rodon, Toronto’s Santiago Espinal, batsman J.D. Boston Martinez, third baseman in Atlanta Austin Riley and Texas Cory Seager were among the previous additions.

These include second hitter Jose Altuve of Houston, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez of the Astros, third baseman Nolan Arenado of St. Louis, second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. of Miami, Josh Hader of Milwaukee, and Harper and defensive back George Springer of Toronto. Most of them withdrew due to injuries.

Altuve was replaced in the starting lineup by Andres Gimenez of Cleveland, Chisholm by Jeff McNeil of the New York Mets, Harper by William Contreras of Atlanta and Trout by Byron Buxton of Minnesota.

After his addition, Rodon was disqualified due to a broken fingernail and a blister on the middle finger of his stalking hand.

Four of the 18 starters were replaced: Altuve by Andres Gimenez of Cleveland, Chisholm by Jeff McNeil of the New York Mets, Harper by William Contreras of Atlanta and Trout by Buxton.
