GMC to expand global presence in Australia, New Zealand and China after record year in 2023

GMC is gearing up to expand its global presence in Australia, New Zealand and China after a record year in 2023

Following stellar results in North America and beyond in 2023, GMC today confirmed the brand's global expansion into three new international markets.

Customers in Australia, New Zealand and China will soon join the GMC family, and the brand will introduce the Yukon full-size SUV in these high-growth markets. Sales in China are expected to begin in 2024, followed by Australia and New Zealand in 2025. The announcement follows the launch of the GMC Sierra LD pickup truck in South Korea in 2023, pioneering the premium truck market in the country.

These new markets will strengthen the brand's established operations in the US, Mexico, Canada and the Middle East, and will build on GMC's incredible speed and global appeal.

“GMC is in one of the most exciting eras in its history as we look forward to growing competitively in our home market while also venturing into new ones,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC. “We are building our future as a premium truck and SUV brand, and our success proves that our customers around the world are excited about the path we are taking forward.”

GMC ended 2023 in the U.S. with an increase in retail sales (6.5%) so far this calendar year, resulting in the best overall sales performance since 2017. A key factor in this success was the Sierra LD and HD nameplates' record sales and sixth consecutive year of share growth. In addition, production of the HUMMER EV pickup truck and SUV continues to increase as excitement and enthusiasm for the all-electric supertruck continues, with retail sales expected to double from 2022 to 2023.
