Government of Nepal to promote electric vehicle industry

While touring a car show in Kathmandu, Nepalese Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet highlighted the importance of promoting the increase in electric vehicles in order to preserve the environment.

In this regard, he stressed that one of the government’s priorities is to establish more charging stations throughout the country with the aim of facilitating the adoption of the initiative.

He said that the cooperation of the private sector in building the stations was encouraged, as well as the Nepal Electricity Authority to manage the transmission system and transformers.

Minister Basnet stressed that this is an example of the government’s decision to support the electric car industry and create a suitable environment for its promotion.

He also noted the recent implementation of 51 charging stations and the intention to build more to promote the use of electric vehicles.

He pointed out that promoting environmentally friendly initiatives also allows reducing the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products.

While meeting with participants at the auto show, Basnet learned of entrepreneurs’ concerns regarding requesting additional tax breaks for the electric vehicle industry.
