How to take RAW photos on your iPhone

By default, your iPhone saves photos as HEIC files by simply pressing the shutter button, although many people change the default photo format to JPEG, which is more compatible with other devices.

How to enable RAW shooting on iPhone

Before we start, we should note that this feature is only available on iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

(1) Open Settings, scroll down and select Camera.

(2) Click on Formulas

(3) Under Photo Capture, press the Apple ProRAW button to turn it on.

(4) Open the Camera app and tap the RAW icon at the top right. When you open the camera for the first time, the code will be crossed out. When you touch it, the strikethrough will disappear, which means you are taking photos in RAW mode.

You are now taking photos in ProRAW. If you’re concerned about storage space, keep in mind that each RAW image will take up about 25MB of space, compared to the 1MB used by HEIC files. You may need to upgrade your iCloud storage if you plan to take a lot of RAW photos.
