Hundreds of thousands cheer for the brave at the parade

Hundreds of thousands cheer for the brave at the parade

Hundreds of thousands of fans cheered the Atlanta Braves on Friday during a two-stage show to celebrate their conquest of the world championship, something the team hasn’t accomplished since 1995.

Some schools in the city closed, and students took the opportunity to attend the celebration.

“This is the funniest part of it all,” said Terry McGurk, president of Braves. In every building there were children everywhere. I never expected to see so many young fans.”

The show began in downtown Atlanta, near the Braves’ former home, Turner Field. Buses, floats, and vans then passed a memorial to Hall of Fame member Hank Aaron at the site of Atlanta’s old Fulton County Stadium.

The caravan then headed toward Peachtree Street, surrounded by many fans.

Atlanta police estimates that between 300,000 and 400,000 people attended the celebration, only in the downtown part of the city.

Several others also attended the last mile of the show, which arrived at Truist Park, the current home of the Braves in Cobb County, an Atlanta suburb. The stadium was full.

Thousands of fans filled the entertainment complex located near the stadium.

The Braves moved to Cobb County for a series of tax incentives and the ability to build a complex of restaurants, shops, apartments and entertainment venues next to the new park that opened in 2017.

McGurk said he came to the conclusion that “there are over a million people”.

“This city has gone crazy, and it’s so cool to be a part of it,” he added.

The Braves grabbed the title Tuesday night by crushing the Houston Astros 7-0 in Game Six.

Dansby Swanson, a native of Marietta, another suburb of Atlanta, had a local perspective, speaking about waiting 26 years before celebrating another title.

“This city has wanted the championship for a long time,” Swanson said. “It is so unbelievable that schools have closed. Seeing that children are enjoying this moment and being inspired is beyond compare.”
