Kajedanovic: “New Zealand is too expensive for us, we’ll see what happens with Japan after what happens in Spain”

WRC2 leader Kajetan Kajetanowicz hopes a strong result at next week’s RallyRACC – Rally de España in Japan will see his title bid through to the end of the season.

The Polish driver has accepted a single target for his 2022 season. Instead of competing in the most popular events in Europe, many of Kajedanović’s starts have been in long-distance events beyond its borders.

So far, the strategy has paid off for the Skoda Fabia Rally2 driver, with a win at Safari Rally Kenya and second place at Repco Rally New Zealand earlier this month earning him further valuable points.

Kajetanowicz currently trails Andreas Mickelson by 13 points with seven rallies to go, although he still has two qualifying rounds to go. His Fabia team-mate Emil Lindholm is a further 10 points behind and in the title race.

Following his podium finish in Kiwi, Kajedanovic hinted that the outcome of next week’s Spanish event could be a deciding factor in whether he travels to Japan in November.

“It’s the same story as before,” he told the WRC website. “We are in the fight, but we have to keep our plan, press on and not make any mistakes. We will see what we do in Japan after what happened in Spain. We are working on it, but New Zealand is already too expensive for us and Japan is not safe yet,” he said. justified.

Gajedanovic was delighted that the ORLEN-backed team had completed their long journey to New Zealand. He was beaten only by former top-flight driver Hayden Baden, who was comfortable on his home roads.

“New Zealand is an amazing place with amazing conditions,” he smiles. “We already knew that, but now I’m sure it’s a fantastic rally. The place and the atmosphere are unique. Of course it’s difficult in terms of logistics, but it’s the World Rally Championship and that’s what it is. I really enjoyed the weekend and I hope to be able to come back here in the future.”
