Kirk-Bilt pitches in and helps Berrios, Toronto beat the Astros

TORONTO — Brandon Belt hit a tiebreaker single, Jose Berrios pitched six innings to win his third straight decision, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 3-2 on Thursday.

Alejandro Kirk added an RBI double and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reached base with two runs for Toronto, which won three of four games against the Astros and took the season series against Houston 4–3.

Yordan Álvarez, the Cuban hitter for the Astros, left after one at bat with a painfully tilted right. He was pulled to ground out to the first baseman in the first inning.

Corey Goulkes replaced him when it was his turn in the batter’s box in the third inning. He went 1-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout.

Berríos (6-4) allowed two runs and four hits in a game that included a walk and a strikeout. Yemi Garcia scored the seventh, Eric Swanson grounded the eighth, and Jordan Romano finished the game on his 17th save in 20 attempts.

Toronto left-handed Framper Valdez (6-5) blocked his fourth series win. The Dominican allowed three runs and four hits in five innings, with four walks and five strikeouts.

For the Astros, Dominican Jeremy Peña 4-0. Venezuelan Jose Altuve, 4-0. Cuban Alvarez 1-0, Jose Abreu 4-2. Puerto Rico Mardin Maldonado 3-0.
