Mexico has completed archaeological rescue operations on the Maya train route

Taking stock of the achievements achieved, INAH considers 2023 to have been one of the most fruitful years in developing its thematic tasks in the protection, research, preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage.

He points out that, within the framework of the Mexican government's priority project Tren Maya, the institute this year concluded archaeological rescue work both on the right of way and in the buffer zones of this means of transportation, which will connect the states. At the same time, he explains, the Program for the Improvement of Archaeological Areas (PROMESA) has been strengthened, through the inclusion of the ancient city of Cuba and its improvement sites, such as the Pamol II Eco-Archaeological Corridor, where the Ocho Palace Caves are located. It is reported that in 10 of the 29 archaeological areas included in PROMESA, visitor service centers are being built to improve the tourist experience and give development options to communities near these sites.

In terms of finds recorded thanks to Promeza, the funeral chamber at Palenque stands out; the stone representations of an Atlantean person and the face of a warrior at Chichen Itza; The Cholton water tank was reused as a crypt, and the stone image of the captive is at Ek Balam.

It is noteworthy that the Institute has also made discoveries in other archaeological salvage operations, as in the case of the Chalco-Santa Martha Trolleybus, in the state of Mexico (Idomex), where a ceramic mask dating back to the Late Postclassic period (1400-1521 AD) was found. ; And on Cablebús Line 3, in Mexico City, where 10 3,500-year-old tombs were discovered.

Other recorded finds are: a second portrait of the young ruler of Amajac, at the Alamo Timapachi, Veracruz; Fossilized egg of a flamingo, at the excavation site of Santa Lucia, Idomex.

In addition, there is a display of 15 greenstone statuettes, found in the Templo Mayor, in Mexico City, and the Chuck Mole sculpture in Patzcuaro, Michoacán.
