Lviv (Ukraine), November 20 (EFE).- Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said today that New Zealand expressed “unconditional support to the people of Ukraine” during the first visit of a New Zealand defense minister to the country.

“Representatives of the foreign delegation expressed unconditional support to the people of Ukraine in their struggle against the occupying state. New Zealand Defense Minister Benny Henare emphasized that the main thing is to achieve a just peace based on the principles of international law and respect for the sovereignty of Ukraine,” he said.

A report gathered by Ukrinform asserts that this is the first time in the history of a New Zealand defense minister to visit Ukraine.

“I personally thank the delegation and you for your clear stance in favor of Ukraine and your active participation in the training of the Ukrainian army,” Reznikov said during the meeting with Henare.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed measures to be taken to improve bilateral cooperation, in particular, training of Ukrainian soldiers and New Zealand’s assistance in demining on Ukrainian territory.

Henare described the conversation as “productive” in which “future plans” were identified and the New Zealand side was informed of the “needs of Ukrainian soldiers who heroically defend their land”.

He expressed confidence in Ukraine’s success, assuring that the New Zealand government would find a solution to providing additional aid to Ukraine. EFE
