Netflix Premieres ‘The Black Knight’, the Amazing New Korean Sci-Fi Series That Will Remind You of ‘Mad Max’

Netflix on Friday released what may be a new phenomenon in the Korean genre after The Squid Game, Kingdom and We are dead: “The Black Knight”, a science fiction series in a post-apocalyptic future In which oxygen is the currency.

The series “The Black Knight” (not to be confused with the Martin Lawrence comedy whose title shares it, also available in the Netflix movie catalog) is a bleak scenario. We are in the year 2071, 40 years after a meteor hit the planet Earth and wiped out 99% of the world’s population.. The Korean Peninsula is a desert and the air quality means that the few remaining survivors are forced to wear a mask that converts oxygen, a mineral left over from the meteorite, into oxygen.

As in the best sci-fi series, Society is divided and inequality is the engine of conflict. Korea was divided into three social classes: those who live in the heart, a vegetation-filled place where the elite reside, those who live in the private area, around the heart, and the residents of public areas, the giant apartment complexes made for them. He can live in the desert. They all have a QR code tattooed on their hands that identifies and categorizes them, but there is a fourth “unofficial” designation which is Refugees, those who were not selected or who were expelled from the large organized cities.

The protagonist of this story 5-8 (Kim Woo-bin), oxygen delivery man for which we only know its identification code. Due to the toxic atmosphere, the survivors need to periodically replenish their oxygen reserves, and for this there is a service Armored trucks traverse the desert in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ style, facing off against hordes of robot thieves.

The dream of becoming a delivery man is the only way out for many refugees, incl Yoon Sa Wol (Kang Yoo-seok)who trains daily to achieve this with the help of Jung Sol Ah (Esom)a military lady who hides him in her house in the general neighborhood and her daughter seoul ah (Roh Yoon Seo).

Once the context for the series is established, the pilot episode culminates in introducing the main plot that will engage our heroes. 5-8, Sa-Wol and Seul-Ah will have to join forces to uncover a plot hatched by the Cheonmyeong Organization.the company that basically rules Korea, and fights for social equality and refugee survival.

Mystery, action, science fiction, persecutions… Korea once again triumphed at the top of the Netflix series with A series you’ll devour this weekend.
