The Government announced on Saturday that it would grant New Zealand citizenship to war refugees from Ukraine under a special visa introduced last year.
Ukrainian special visa holders whose document was issued before March 15, 2024 will be able to apply for residency in New Zealand, the government said on its website. The 12-month permit opened to applicants in March 2022 and was extended for another year in February.
The government says about 1,510 visas have been issued and there are about 340 permit holders in New Zealand.. The government will stop accepting applications after March 15. He said.
“Many of those seeking safety in New Zealand may not have expected to be here for long, but as the war continues, we have a humanitarian duty to provide them with certainty,” New Zealand's Immigration Minister Andrew Little said. Report..
Citizenship applicants must provide a medical certificate, meet character checks and identification requirements, as well as pay an application fee of NZ$1,200 (US$708).
