PAHO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Cordoba, trained 90 professionals in the safe use of medicines – PAHO/WHO

Buenos Aires November 29, 2023 (PAHO/WHO). Within the framework of the actions envisaged in the implementation of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Standard Core Condition Evaluation Tool (VCEm) in Cordoba, on November 22, certificates were delivered to 90 professionals from 35 health institutions who were trained in safe use of medicines practices.

The certificates were awarded after professionals in pharmacy, nursing and medicine – many of whom are members of the Patient Safety Committee of Cordoba Hospitals – were trained on the topic during the 10 weeks at the Virtual Campus of Public Health (CVSP). Accompanied by specialists.

In response to a question about this matter, the representative of the Pan American Health Organization in Argentina, Eva Jani Lopes, expressed that “the training was committed by the Ministry of Health in Cordoba to the quality and safety of patients and the technical cooperation of the Pan American Health Organization” and explained that “all” had been made possible. This meeting is for health teams to develop a project to improve safe use of medicines practices in the health institution in which they work.

He also added that “PAHO Argentina has motivated health professionals to continue implementing projects and thus continue the cycle of continuous improvement.”

During the handover ceremony in Córdoba, the Regional Minister of Health, Gabriela Barbas, highlighted the “huge work done by the health team, which is essential” and added that “it is important to continue on the path of quality and continuous training, for the health team.” Humanizing the health system, fully trusting the teams, while providing the tools so we can continue to change people’s lives.

For her part, Sonia Quezada Bolaños, Advisor for Health Systems and Services at the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization in Argentina, explained that “the training took place within the framework of transferring the VCEm tool during which patterns were identified in the medical units visited, including practices.” The safe use of medications is an area for improvement.

One of the basic conditions in the provision of health services is a quality standard that assesses the indispensable level of organizational development required to meet the health needs of individuals and communities, based on best practices, ethics, scientific knowledge and national regulations, in order to contribute to equity and well-being. The VCEm tool allows you to identify opportunities for improvement and interventions to improve underlying conditions.
