Mexico City, July 9 (EFE). Although there are many similarities between the fictional series “Resident Evil” and reality, Mexican actor Pedro de Tavira asserts that these are just coincidences, admitting that the implementation of the series’ recordings was ironically triggered by the spread of the virus in the midst of the pandemic.

“It was a coincidence that they filmed in the middle of a virus pandemic, (…) but it was strange to be in a movie where you have to wear a mask because there is a virus, while you are doing a series about a virus that escapes and transforms people,” the actor admitted in an interview with Efe .

In fiction, de Tavira plays Angel Rubio, a Mexican journalist who discovers the dark secrets kept by the Umbrella Corporation after investigating mysterious cases of deaths at its factories located in Mexico.

The investigation and search for the truth not only cost him his job, but also his family’s affection and emotional stability.

“(Angel) begins investigating disappearances and unexplained deaths, and that prompts him to start censoring, they fire him, and then he has no choice but to become a blogger and become a kind of conspiracy theorist because Umbrella is an ‘establishment,'” he recalls.

Set in the year 2036, 14 years after the world has been infected by a mysterious virus, the franchise series that began as a video game in 1996 proposes a world completely different from what was previously considered stories told in the animated film version or audio-visual projects.

However, there are some references to the original story, such as the character of Albert Wesker, and it is considered that Angel will communicate well with fans of this apocalyptic universe.

“For fans who know the series, seeing what Angel will end up with will help them understand some of these monstrous creatures typical of ‘Resident Evil’, and understand where they come from,” he says.

Mexico and the world share

One of the film’s protagonists, De Tavira and actress Paola Núñez, will represent Mexican talent in the series that will hit Netflix on July 14.

The fact that there are Latino actors in the production is something that makes him proud, but in general he celebrates the presence of actors of many nationalities involved, such as British, Chinese, Americans, Hawaiians, Irish, Iranians and others.

“No white character saves the world, it’s Hispanic, African or Asian woman who saves it and needs to be represented, plus if characters are one way of a video game. That’s another story, video games go back many years and that’s the world in which we live today”, sees Pedro.

The actor who recently performed “7 Años” in Mexico hopes that now that “Resident Evil” is released, it will not only open doors for him in terms of projects, “but for the large number of Latin actresses and actors out there so that talent in Latin America can be tapped.”

In addition, Pedro, who admits that he was not a fan of the franchise, stresses that the series is made so that fans of the previous stories and non-followers can enjoy the story and says that after playing Angel he became a huge fan. of these stories. EFE
