PlayStation 5 system software update

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announces that the new PlayStation®5 (PS5™) system software update is now available for update. Among many other features, it adds Discord voice chat feature, variable frame rate support for 1440p resolution, menu accessibility features, and many more which are covered below:

  • Discord Voice Chat on PS5™: Players can now join Discord voice chat and chat with friends on most gaming platforms. To do this, they’ll need to link their Discord and PlayStation®Network accounts from PS5™, PlayStation.com, or the Discord app on Windows, Mac, or mobile.
  • Start or request Screen Sharing from your friend’s profile: It’s now very easy to share or request a screen. Simply select the Screen Sharing icon on the respective friend’s profile.
  • New “Join a game” icon in group chats: A “You can join” icon will be displayed on the voice chat card for group members who are in a game that the player can join.
  • New Friends Playing board: In Game Hubs, players can now see who friends have the game they’re playing and who’s currently playing it. In the box you can also see what your friends are doing and access their profiles.
  • Manually Upload Game Captures to the PlayStation®App: Screenshots or gameplay videos can now be individually selected and uploaded to the PS App from the PS5™.

New game features and customization

  • 1440p Variable Refresh Rate Support: Smoother visual performance when using a 1440p TRV-compliant HDMI 2.1 display can now be enjoyed when playing a TRV-compliant title. Results may vary depending on the game being played.
  • Game library improvements: You can now sort and filter games when adding titles to your game list, and use filters in the library to quickly find PS VR 2 titles, among other things.
  • Predefined game settings for multiplayer session preferences: Preferences can now be set to manage who can join and invite other players to a multiplayer session.

New accessibility features

  • PS4™ to PS5™ Save Data Migration – Easy access to PS4™ and PS5™ save data.
  • Transfer PS5 data to PS5: PS5™ system data such as game saves, data, user settings, screenshots, or videos can now be easily transferred to another PS5™ system via a Wi-Fi or LAN cable.
  • Screen reader improvements: The screen reader now provides more detailed information when the player scrolls the controller.
  • DualSense™ Wireless Controller Update: The DualSense™ Wireless Controller software can now be updated using a wireless connection.
