Russia has started maneuvers with 50,000 soldiers from 14 countries

MOSCOW, Sept. 1 (Prince Latina) Russia today started the Vostok 2022 exercises, with the participation of at least 50,000 soldiers from 14 countries, including China, which will continue until next Wednesday, the Defense Ministry (Mendev) said.

The inauguration of the exercises, which is held every year in one of the five military districts of Russia, took place at the Sergeevsky field in the eastern Primorye region, and will cover nine ranges in seven locations in this country, Mindef said in a statement.

About 5,000 combat teams, 140 aircraft, 60 warships and support from Russia, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Belarus, China, Laos, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, India, Armenia, Nicaragua and Tajikistan are participating in the maneuvers.

Most of the naval exercises will take place in the seas of Okhotsk and Japan. The intention is to enhance cooperation and security among the participating countries, for peaceful purposes, according to the organizers.

In 2021, the exercises were called Zapad, in the Belarus region, simultaneous with Western provocations near the border of that neighboring country, while the 2020 exercises were known as Kavkaz and then Iran, Pakistan and others participated in them.

The exercise comes shortly after the conclusion of the largest exercises organized by the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea near Hawaii.
