Russia says that NATO chose confrontation on all fronts

Moscow, July 1 (EFE). – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said today that by declaring Russia the “main threat”, NATO has chosen confrontation and containment of Moscow on all fronts.

“Russia has been recognized as a threat to the alliance (…), and this is a very dangerous turning point, it is a real declaration of confrontation with us, and the containment of Russia on all fronts,” Grushko said at a meeting of the alliance. Valdai International Debating Club.

According to the diplomat, whatever NATO leaders say about the defensive nature of NATO, “the direction of its military activity is determined by the confrontation with Russia.”

Grushko also stressed that NATO “questioned China’s right to develop as one of the poles of a multipolar world already formed by calling the Asian giant a ‘challenge'”.

Regarding the invitation of Finland and Sweden to join NATO, the Russian deputy minister categorically said: “In my opinion, it is one of the saddest events in the development of European security.”

“This will lead to a deterioration in regional security, greatly complicate the situation in the north and reduce the possibilities for peaceful cooperation,” he said.

He warned that the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO “will lead to a serious deterioration of the military situation in the Baltic Sea.” EFE
