Russia still does not respond to Guterres’ request to travel to Moscow

Moscow, April 21 (EFE). – Russia does not have at the moment any response to the request of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to travel to Moscow to meet with the authorities of this country to address the situation in Ukraine, he said. The Kremlin.

“These requests come from the Foreign Ministry. At the moment there is no response,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at his daily press conference.

Guterres sent letters on Tuesday to the presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, asking them to receive him on a possible visit to Moscow and how.

In those letters, he reminded them that both Russia and Ukraine are founding members of the United Nations and have “always provided strong support to the organization”, but that we are now “in times of great danger”.

Guterres said he would like to discuss “urgent steps to bring peace to Ukraine” with them.

This week, the Secretary-General of the United Nations proposed to Russia and Ukraine declaring a four-day “Easter Truce” (in reference to the Orthodox Easter).

Ukraine supported the initiative to declare a “humanitarian pause” and thus help evacuate civilians from the areas most affected by the fighting, while pro-Russian militias in Donbass questioned its effectiveness and accused Kyiv of violating the previous truce during the eight years of conflict in the region.
