Storm Cindy heading towards the Lesser Antilles – DW – 06/25/2023

Tropical Storm Cindy strengthened Saturday (06/20/2023) on its way to the Lesser Antilles, while Bret dissipated and became a trough, the National Antilles Center reported. Tornadoes (NHC) from the USA

NHC reported in its latest newsletter that Cindythe third tropical storm of the atlantic storm season, is maintaining maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (96 kph) and is located about 465 miles (750 km) east-northeast of the lesser antilles.

Cindy formed Thursday night in the open sea from Tropical Depression Number Four and in the past few hours has increased its travel speed, advancing at 21 mph (33 km/h) toward the Lesser Antilles, although experts predicted it would cruise. Experience “progressive weakening” in the coming days.

The tropical storm’s winds extend up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center, and according to the NHC forecast, the system will pass “well to the northeast of the northernmost Leeward Islands.”

As for Bret, the system is located 160 miles (260 km) west of the Guajira Peninsula, in Colombia, and is exhibiting maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph).

The remnants of Britt are moving west at 21 mph (33 km/h).

NHC meteorologists warn that the storm generated by Brett’s remnants will affect coastal areas bordering the central Caribbean Sea on Saturday.
