Texas authorities are holding Cubans for human trafficking

Authorities in Kinney County, Texas, have arrested a Cuban couple for human trafficking. Sheriff’s deputies surprised the defendants while they were transporting five undocumented people in their car.

Those born on the island resided in Elton, Texas. However, the driver of the car offered a Kentucky license. As is known, this region is recognized for hosting a large number of immigrants.

He was arrested for violating traffic laws

Apparently, the alleged human trafficking business was going smoothly. However, one of those involved, specifically the driver, committed a traffic offense on a country road. The famous stretch connects the border with the interior regions of Texas.

After the said violation of the laws, highway officers immediately ordered the vehicle to be stopped before it reached the town of Brackettville. Undocumented persons were detected in the rear of the vehicle and requested the support of the Rio Sector Border Patrol. The agents executed the immigrants’ detention and automatically began prosecuting them for entering the country illegally.

Meanwhile, human traffickers could face prison sentences of up to ten years. Then, after the specified time is up, they can even be deported back to Cuba.

Such cases are frequent in the United States, especially in Texas. Over the past months, many Cuban citizens have been involved in events like this.

On April 6, the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested a Cuban “coyote” who was transporting four Mexican immigrants. They were travelers hidden in a U-Haul truck.

The coyotes and the four migrants ended up in detention, even after escaping and failing to comply with the initial instructions of the police. This was stated in a Facebook post by the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.
