The board will replace the asbestos roof of the Orcera Health Center “in a second phase”, following the current works – Spain

The Regional Health and Consumption Delegation of Jaén conveyed its “commitment to refurbishment and replacement of the fine asbestos panels of the Orcera Health Centre”. It will be in a ‘second phase’ of ‘already planned’ works, once those currently underway to repair the building have been completed.

This was indicated on Wednesday by sources from the aforementioned department consulted by Europa Press after Ecologistas en Acción requested the roof to be changed “to avoid the risk to public health involved in maintaining the existing roof due to its high content of hazardous asbestos” benefiting from the reform being carried out .

The delegation explained that “from the Northeast Health District, an investment was evaluated to replace the roof of the Orcera Health Center,” although this was done “as soon as the project to reform the center was implemented, because it was not aware of this matter, and moreover, it was not informed By the city council, because the building is municipal property.

“At that time, depending on the investment in the overhaul, it was necessary to prioritize the implementation of the work in the entire care area, since about 200,000 euros were allocated in the budget for the renovation of the roof and, therefore, there was to leave an entire floor of the center without repair (in total there are three floors),” he said.

That is why, the health added, it was necessary to “prioritize the modernization and adaptation of 40-year-old facilities” whose electronic medical equipment is “completely obsolete”.

In this sense, he stressed that “the replacement of the asbestos roof will take place in the second stage of implementation that has already been planned” and whose terms will start once the repair is completed. This work began in March and is 30 percent complete. It was awarded 1.2 million euros and the implementation period is six months.

The overhaul consists of an internal overhaul of the entire health center, renovation of all rooms, their distribution, finishes and facilities. This will mean modifying the scheme of internal roads, removing one of the building’s stairwells and including an accessible lift connecting floors to improve accessibility. In addition, he is thinking of renovating all equipment.
