The boy who dreamed of composing the soundtrack

When Carles had to decide what to study, he was clear from the first moment. A longtime musician, Valencia decided to major in music composition. Since his specialty, the Valencian musician has created many soundtracks for different short films. However, in 2021 he decided to go one step further and break new ground. “Director Diego Laderos needed a composer for his documentary and I gave him my score. “He accepted, and from that moment we started working together to make the necessary changes,” he recalls enthusiastically. The young man, who is only 27 years old, has created pieces of “Cat Boy” (film)A feature film set in a small town in Galicia in the 1950s, where a strange-looking being appears. After several unusual events with associated deaths, the Cat Boy legend was falsified. More than two years have passed since that moment, but Valencia remembers the experience with great affection. “It was very nice to work together,” he says. Therefore, this was not the only work they collaborated on.

Second feature film

Currently, Carles JHe combines his role as a musical language teacher with creating another soundtrack for a new screening of Ladeiros. “He offered me to work together again in his new film and I did not hesitate,” he says. The work has not yet been released, although, in his words, it “stars a writer stuck in his career.” “I think people will like it,” he adds.

Although he realizes that it is not easy to work in this sector, he… His enthusiasm is stronger than any adversity. “There's a lot of work behind it, but it's paying off,” he says. One great reward came a few weeks ago when he won an award silver medal At the last edition of the World Music Awards for his work “Tramonto Sul Lungomare”. These awards recognize musical excellence at the international level from the United States. Despite his young age, his works stood out among the pieces presented in the composition category, which confirms the quality of the artist’s work.

The piece, created for string quintet and flute, aims to inspire the audience with evocative landscapes through the simplicity of tonal language. “It was a project I recorded in Madrid and decided to present,” he explains. Although he thought he would not be selected, he is very happy with the result. He concludes, “I did not expect that, so it was a great joy. This shows that Valencia is the land of musicians.”
