The family from Antigua who told Will Smith carpet secrets – Prensa Libre

On February 28, 2022, American actor Will Smith was recorded as arriving in the country. With the news, many Guatemalans took to social networks where they expressed their surprise and excitement for the visit.

After his arrival, a translator of films such as Men in black or I Am Legend Stayed in Antigua Guatemala where he can be seen walking through the main tourist points of the colonial city with a registration team.

Although Smith’s stay has been brief since he left Guatemala on March 4, his journey was marked by many smiles, sympathy, and even complicity with the people of the colonial city.

Among the people involved with the actor were several members of the Ortiz López family, who were famous for many years in Antigua Guatemala for making sawdust rugs and also for providing products for their preparation.

Smith and the Ortiz López family shared that the American actor must be recorded while supporting the making of the rug with cultural and traditional motifs from Guatemala.

Don Rolando Ortiz, creator of the family business Carpets and Moldes Ortiz, shared that the rug they made with the actor was 10m long and 2m wide.

It included figures of a woman, a volcano, a butterfly, various branches of the bush from which the coffee grew, as well as the flower in which it is located, nine colors of sawdust and five sets of briquettes used to spread them.

Although Ortiz shares the well-known translator of the film Find Happiness Spent a few hours working with him, his wife, children and several nephews, it was a curious approach on the part of the actor.

“He told me he had never seen the carpet and that he loved the work we did. I wanted to know a lot about the materials, especially how to make sawdust,” says Don Rolando.

According to the carpet specialist, Smith is a kind person who was surprised that, being a celebrity, he “wasn’t with a lot of bodyguards.”

“He’s not the type who doesn’t want to talk. He’s very humble and charismatic. During the time he shared in front of the carpet, he gave a lot of confidence,” says Ortiz, 69.

Although it was an enjoyable visit, it is not the first time that Don Rolando’s family has come into contact with a world famous person. Last year they shared the same dynamic regarding the proposal old fashion by Ricardo Arjona.
