The ministry announced Lavrov's arrival in Beijing via the social media network X.

Lavrov will stay in the Chinese capital for two days and will meet his counterpart Wang Yi, according to a previous statement from the ministry.

“An in-depth exchange of views is scheduled to take place on several hot topics,” the statement said, referring to “the Ukrainian crisis and the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.”

He added that the two ministers “will discuss a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation and cooperation on the international scene.”

The last time Lavrov visited Beijing was last October to attend an international forum on the Belt and Road Initiative launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

China presents itself as a neutral party in the Ukrainian conflict, but in the past two years it has become Russia's main trading partner and calls for a political solution to the war.

The West regularly calls on him to play a more active role in resolving the conflict, using his influence over Moscow.
