The Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 55 celebrates a milestone achievement in AMG

Mercedes-AMG celebrates, and to celebrate it has just introduced this special edition of the legendary Geländewagen that will be known as the Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 55. What’s the cause? Nothing short of AMG’s 55th anniversary.

The company was initially known as AMG Motor Production and Development It was founded in 1967 by former Mercedes-Benz engineers Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in Burgstal, as a process of developing racing engines for Mercedes-Benz cars. In 1976, AMG moved its operations to its current headquarters, Affalterbach.

In 2005 Mercedes-Benz, which it had already controlled since 1999, acquired all shares in AMG, which currently serves as the manufacturer’s highly advanced automotive division, with responsibilities for the design, manufacturing and marketing of vehicles sold under the Mercedes-AMG brand. The current GT coupe and four-door models, as well as the SL Roadster, are Mercedes-AMG products that have no equal on the Mercedes-Benz side.

engine Mercedes AMG G63 It’s still unchanged on the Special Edition, meaning it’s equipped with the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that powers all 2022 G63 engines. This engine produces 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, and its power is sent to all four wheels through Nine-speed automatic transmission.

This special edition Geländewagen can only be ordered in two colours, white or black, or marked in the brand’s dictionary, Manufaktur Opalite White or Obsidian Black Metallic. Whichever color is chosen, the powerful SUV will display a decal on the bottom of its doors with a simplified version of the AMG Medallion and will be equipped with the AMG Night and AMG Night II packages that add dark details to the bodywork and interior. From the car, among them is a beautiful chrome-plated fuel filler cap and displays the AMG logo. All 55 Mercedes-AMG G63 versions use 22-inch forged wheels with a crossover design and a matte gray finish.

In its cabin, the Edition 55 showcases a combination of black and red, which has been used a lot over the years in Mercdes’ most powerful cars, and is evident in its Nappa leather-trimmed seats. The Mercedes Dinamica microfibre-wrapped steering wheel features the ’55 AMG’ badge on its lower center bars. The black velor floor mats with red contrast stitching display the AMG logo, as do the red illuminated stainless steel running boards. Buyers of the 55th Edition also get a dedicated cover to protect the vehicle inside the garage.

This is the second special edition of the Mercedes-AMG G63 that we know about this week after the release of the Mercedes-AMG G63 Palace “Space Horse Tokyo” built in collaboration with Palace Skateboard, and it is likely that the latter is identical to the current version of this powerful truck, subject to Prototypes of an updated version of the model are currently for field tests across Europe. Not many changes are expected, but some updates to telecommunications systems and possibly some minor external changes.

Mercedes-AMG hasn’t said if production of the 55th Edition will be limited to a specific number of units, but the model’s exorbitant price will keep things under control. In Germany, for example, to the starting price of the G63 of €144,450 ($158,896), you have to add an additional cost of €17,850 ($19,365) for the 55 version, which unfortunately will not be offered in the US . Orders for the Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 55 are now open in Europe where the anniversary model can be ordered until October of this year.
