The Mets are back on the positive path led by Degrom, Alonso

NEW YORK – Jacob Degrom shot nine in six separate ball runs, and the New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 on Thursday.

Pete Alonso hit his 31st home run, hitting the ball at signals behind left field during three rounds in the third inning. The Mets thus increased their lead at the top of the Eastern National League to two games over the Atlanta Braves, who were rested.

DeGrom (3-1) retired his first 13 opponents, eventually allowing three hits and one walk. He has a 2.15 ERA and hit 46 for only two careers in 29 1/3 innings over five starts since returning from elbow and shoulder injuries.

DeGrom had a perfect job until Jose Iglesias hit a single in the fifth inning by one lead. Randall Grechuk followed him two times down the third base line, but DeGrum hit Sam Hilliard and forced Brian Servin to hit a harmless line into right field.

Adam Ottavino delivered a perfect ninth game in his first save since September 1, 2021, when he was a member of the Boston Red Sox.

The loser was Ryan Feltner (2-5).

For Rocky, Cuban Iglesias 4-2.

For the Mets, the Dominican Starling Mart scored 4-0 in one inning. Puerto Rico Francisco Lindor 2-0 with RBI, Tomas Nido 4-1 with a half scored.
