Los Angeles (USA), August 16 (EFE). The Academy Awards will once again announce the winners of all awards during the ceremony, instead of handing over the statues for the art categories one hour before the live broadcast.
The foundation’s new CEO, Bill Kramer, told A.Frame that he would like to see “all artistic and scientific disciplines honored during the show.”
“We need to produce an Oscar that celebrates the collaborative work of the industry,” he added.
In the latest edition of the awards, out of the 23 categories that make up the Academy Awards, eight were announced before the start of the ceremony, while the red carpet was ending and the vast majority of guests had not yet sat at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles (USA).
Then during the broadcast, a summary of the winners’ reactions was broadcast.
The categories affected were Best Documentary, Best Editing, Best Makeup and Hair, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Short Film, Best Animated Short Film and Best Soundtrack.
The change reduced the Spanish attendance at the ceremony, with Spaniards Alberto Milgo and Leo Sanchez taking home the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for “Windshield Wiper” during this period.
The decision angered many, and union organizations representing editors, musicians and sound engineers proposed a boycott and suggested that the candidates decline the invitation to attend the concert.
In 2018, the Academy had already announced its intention to remove the art awards from the ceremony and hand them over during the commercial break, but backed down after the film community rejected them.
Other awards, such as the Grammys and Latin Grammys, present most of the awards at an earlier ceremony that was not televised, although their cause is justified because they have nearly a hundred categories (several for each style of music) compared to 23 at the Academy Awards. .
