The Peruvian government is committed to making the country one of the safest in Latin America

The Prime Minister of Peru, Aníbal Torres, announced on Friday that the government has set itself a goal to put the country on the right track towards development and turn it into one of the safest countries in Latin America.

“The three levels of executive power are here: local, regional and national,” said Torres, during a meeting between representatives of the national government and the authorities of the Lambayeque region.

The Chief of Staff noted that the COVID-19 vaccination program will continue, focusing on people who have not yet been vaccinated. Torres said mass vaccination of the population would allow the market to fully open, for children to begin face-to-face classes in March, and to make distancing more flexible.

With regard to violence and citizen insecurity, the Prime Minister estimated that some of the measures taken by his government will face opposition, although he stressed that they are necessary for the good of the citizens.

“We have to make Peru one of the safest countries in Latin America. They will oppose some measures such as banning two people from riding on linear motorcycles. Torres concluded that we can even make Serenazgo (municipal monitoring service) made up of well-prepared people and, if necessary, Arm them, because there are non-lethal weapons.

This week, the Minister of the Interior, Alfonso Chavari, announced the approval of a rule prohibiting the movement of two people on a motorcycle, due to the increase in criminal acts using these vehicles.
