Oakland – Jeurys Familia blew a lead in the ninth inning, Jake Fraley hit a broken double for Cincinnati, and the Oakland A’s broke a dismal league record by going winless in their first 28 games of the campaign.
On Saturday, they lost 3-2 to the Reds.
Oakland starter Kyle Mueller worked five innings and looked poised to break the spell. But Familia (0-2) walked Henry Ramos, allowed Kevin Newman to a single and walked Nick Senzel.
One out later, Fraley got his drive two corners.
Casey Legomena (1-0) scored the eighth inning for the win. Alexis Diaz helped save Puerto Rico for the fourth time.
Beginners A are 0-15. They passed the Pirates tournament, which started a 27-game winless season.
The defining mark for any point in a season is 43 winless games for a rookie. It was established by Washington last year.
Ramon Laureano returned after missing 11 games with a groin injury, showing off his slick arm by catching a foul fly off Newman and shooting at third base for a stunning double.
For the Reds, the Puerto Rican Ramos made it 3-1 in one run. Cuban Jose Barrero 4-0.
For the Athletics, Dominican Esteore Ruiz has a 5-1 and Laureano 3-1 in one run. Venezuelan Carlos Perez 4-0 run scored. Cuban Aledmys Díaz 1-1 with an RBI. Colombian Jordan Diaz is 4-2 with an RBI.
