Tens of thousands of people demonstrate in favor of Palestine in Middle Eastern countries

On Friday, tens of thousands of people participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations in several countries near Israel and the Gaza Strip. In Iraq, Shiite leaders gathered tens of thousands of Iraqis who gathered in central Baghdad in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza and in protest against the “aggression” of Israel, whose flag they burned and trampled repeatedly. During the march, which various media and agencies described as “massive,” Iraqis criticized “Western silence” in the face of the Israeli siege of the Strip with slogans such as “Death to Israel, death to the United States.”

Iraqis were not the only ones who took to the streets. In Jordan, hundreds of people gathered in the capital, Amman, but especially on the Jordanian-Palestinian border, despite the explicit ban imposed by the authorities to avoid possible quarrels in the region. Participants waved Jordanian and Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian resistance. Israeli forces dispersed the demonstrators and killed 40 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict.

The Lebanese capital, Beirut, witnessed similar scenes, as it hosted a large crowd of hundreds of people who raised Palestinian flags and chanted slogans against Israeli actions and in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

The demonstrations coincided with the Muslim day of prayer. In Cairo, the capital of Egypt, hundreds of citizens gathered after congregational prayers in the city’s main mosque. Demonstrations also took place in Iran, Turkey, Japan, India and Malaysia.
